Health and Safety Advisor

As a health and safety advisor, based in Bedford, your role is to use your knowledge and skills to promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace and ensure that safety policies and procedures are adopted and adhered to. Ensuring products manufactured at our sites are produced in accordance with high food safety standards, and compliance with legal, commercial, and moral obligations.

The role is responsible for enforcing our standards in order to maintain our customers trust and protecting the brand and our customers’ brand integrity.

Key Accountabilities:

• Conduct monthly internal safety regulatory audits.

• Actively promote a strong safety culture through positive engagement.

• Coordinate incident investigations and provide effective follow up for corrective actions.

• Conduct in-house health and safety training.

• Monitor current and potential health and safety risks and hazards in the workplace.

• Support LUUK in the development of site SHE Policies.

• Maintain the Musculoskeletal risk assessments (ART, RAPP, MAC) and consider how risks could be reduced.

• Ensure the site SHE audit ready packs are up-to-date.

• Audit contractor behaviours.

• Drive internal safety inspections and audits to ensure they are completed at the prescribed intervals.

• Analyse accident / incident statistics and identify trends.

• Assist with the completion of monthly health and safety reports in a timely manner.

• Organise departmental and monthly safety committee meetings.

• Alongside the General Manager & Head of Health & Safety develop and successfully deliver agreed parts of the SHE plan.

• Maintain the corrective action database and drive action close out.

• Support with external visitors and group audits.

• Develop and deliver health and safety training and toolbox talks as required.

Job Environment & Working hours:

Office based within a food manufacturing site - 37.5 hours per week between the hours of 8.30am and 5pm with flexibility to meet the demands of the post, with flexibility required.

Education:

Current NEBOSH part 1 national diploma/The British Safety Council Diploma in safety management / NVQ LEVEL 3.

Qualified Trainer in H&S and food related disciplines to include Food Hygiene, NEBOSH and Risk assessment processes, HACCP desirable.

Sound knowledge and experience of health and safety management.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Understanding of ‘current best practice ‘in health and safety and legislation.

• Commercially aware in a business context.

• Advanced people skills, excellent written, oral and listening communication and presentations skills.

• Good administrative and IT skills, particularly in MS Word, Excel and HR databases; internet & e-mail.

• Strong influencing and negotiation skills.

• Coaching.
